Sustainability Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Logistical Support, the Sustainability Manager develops and implements Pechanga Resort and Casino (PRC) sustainability programs, which seek to reduce the organization's negative impact on the environment through ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable practices. The Sustainability Manager is responsible for the leadership and the development, implementation, and management of all Recycling & Environmental programs/activities within PRC. This position works to create and execute strategic steps that expand and support our environmental sustainability vision. FOUR DIAMOND SERVICE AGREEMENT All Team Members will display a Four Diamond commitment to Customer Service through the delivery and maintenance of the Quality Standards established by Pechanga Resort and Casino. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develops a strategic plan identifying key gaps and opportunities in the areas of solid waste management, energy and water efficiency, emissions, and integrated pest management. • Works with Management to develop overall approach to sustainability as a business practice and promote its implementation throughout the organization. • Conducts ongoing management of PRC sustainability program. • Standardizes Recycling Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) or updates current SOP’s for any changes that are required across PRC. • Tracks, calculates and analyzes key sustainability indicators including but not limited to, energy & utilities usage, number of material pulls, monthly waste by category and weight, and overall recycling progress as it pertains to internal sustainability metrics and invoicing, and water usage. • Researches, develops and maintains relationships with current recycling vendors (and/or other waste provider) to determine if material can be recycled, audits their processes to ensure compliance and appropriate accounting/invoicing. This may include executing RFQ for alternatives vendors when needed. • Suggests and advises potential revenue streams with regards to our facilities that may be outside of production materials including facility related environmental factors such as energy, waste water or other environmental factor. • Implement a comprehensive waste reduction & recycling program, including non-hazardous waste, recycling, employee engagement, vendor and service provider selection and management, staff education and training. • Develops key performance indicators to monitor and assess progress towards achieving company goals. • Develops and assesses viability of strategies meant to support conservation, increase usage of renewable resources, or reduce energy costs or wasteful output. • Review and improve the accurate collection and reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual solid waste & recycling program data • Communicates and presents program to a variety of internal and/or external audiences, ranging from employees to facilities executives • Researches and stays current on industry trends and related regulatory issues in order to enhance the program, educate and train team members. • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that sustainability efforts have a limited impact on productivity or quality standards. • Ensures compliance with environmental laws and regulations as outlined in the Pechanga Tribal Gaming Compact and applicable Tribal Ordinances • Maintains a working relationship with the Pechanga Tribal Government to ensure compliance with federal and tribal environmental law • Performs other job related duties assigned. ACCOUNTABILITY: The Sustainability Manager has supervisory responsibilities including training, performance journaling and making valuable recommendations for performance evaluations. In addition has responsibility for terminations and team member relation issues. ________________________________________ QUALIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES ________________________________________ EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree BA/BS in Environmental Science, Business, Public Administration, or related field, from an accredited four-year college or university required. Master’s Degree preferred. A minimum of six (6) years of directly related work experience is required. A combination of education and experience may be combined in lieu of BA/BS degree. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents, including peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to understand and interpret basic univariate statistical analyses. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class “A” Gaming License issued by Pechanga Gaming Commission. • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. SKILLS/ABILITIES: • Adaptable to fast paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy and has the desire to thrive in a dynamically growing environment. • Strong communicator in both written and verbal with excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate and work at all levels in the organization and customers. • Performs work with a high degree of latitude. • Strong computer skills, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and Access. • Handles the most complex issues. • Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter. • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to subordinate a group. • Very strong organizational, communication, and project management skills required. • Must be able to read, speak, and write intelligently in the English language. Bilingual abilities are a plus. • Must have documented, verifiable experience in drafting policies and procedures for an organization of comparable size to the PRC. • Knowledge of the security and/or educational industry and developed relationships with a variety of professionals is highly desired. • Ability to work independently • Can interpret data and provide meaningful analysis of information |
