POSITION SUMMARY:

This position requires strong organizational skills to help plan, develop and manage public relations projects that will both create and maintain a favorable public image for Cash America. Functions of this role include a strong emphasis on public relations and media relations; knowledge and skills related to social media and internal communications are also preferred. Through strong writing skills and sociable relationship building, this position helps maintain cooperative affiliations with the media, consumers, elected officials and other key external stakeholders. This position manages the Public Relations Specialist and works closely with the Vice President of Public Relations and Corporate Communications. The role calls for an imaginative, experienced self-starter who is eager to strategically oversee and execute ideas that align with the company’s mission and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Craft corporate messaging to ensure it is clear, succinct and easily understood at all levels of the company and general public
• Identify, interpret and capitalize on public relations trends to find more outreach opportunities
• Prepare and update information for media kits and external brochures
• Draft relevant, interesting and effective press releases
• Proactively initiate and execute new concepts and strategies that promote reputation of company and brand-building
• Monitor media coverage of the company/industry and distribute internal daily newsfeed
• Coordinate and evaluate media training sessions for selected coworkers
• Develop relationships to have finger on pulse of employees
• Assist in responding to inquiries from the media or designate appropriate spokespersons
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with the media – including local and national newspapers, trade magazines, bloggers, radio, and television – and company’s spokespersons and community organizations to enhance company’s image
• Update media information on the company’s website
• Assist in managing external PR agency activity as appropriate
• Assist with internal programs that promote community/corporate partnerships
• Develop and implement high-quality, multi-tiered strategic internal communication plans
• Execute administrative duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated excellence in public relations
2. Proficiency in AP Style writing a must
3. Requires a blend of management skills including superior planning, decision-making and negotiation
4. Assign, supervise and review the activities of public relations staff
5. Strong skill set to facilitate and lead work groups
6. Ability to champion projects and take initiative to meet objectives and deadlines
7. Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously involving several customers
8. Effective time management skills required; ability to organize and prioritize efficiently
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills with thorough attention to detail
10. Ability to interface with senior management
11. Insightful editorial skills and sound business judgment
12. Effective presentation skills
13. Solid communication and relationship-building skills with all levels of employees, management and external stakeholders
14. Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative and discretion with integrity
15. Knowledge of federal and state government functions a plus


EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field; accreditation a plus
• Requires progressive experience in public relations—at least five years of experience
