The Heavy Equipment Operator – Transfer Station processes solid waste by compacting and pushing the waste with a loader or dozer into transfer trucks, trailers or compactors throughout the day.
Essential Job Functions:
• Ensure the tipping floor is clean and orderly in order to accept daily waste.
• Keep tipping floor waste safely arranged to allow loader movements.
• Inspect assigned equipment and prepare pre-trips and post-trips of equipment as required.
• Keep hazardous and otherwise prohibited wastes out of the transfer station and landfills.
• Keep building entrances clear of waste for customers to unload safely.
• Be aware of emergency contacts and procedures.
• Perform any other duties assigned by Operations Supervisor.
• Reports any unsafe situations to direct supervisor.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma and/or GED.
• Valid Class B driver License with tanker endorsement and no air brake or automatic transmission restrictions.
• Must be able to read and understand safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions pertaining to assigned vehicles.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual – English/Spanish.
• Basic first aid and CPR training.
