LOSS PREVENTION & SAFETY SUPERVISOR

 

SUMMARY

Oversees the Loss Prevention & Safety Patrol Officers and their duties.  Reports directly to the Regional Loss Prevention & Safety Manager. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

 

Works in conjunction with the Regional Loss Prevention & Safety Manager.  Supervise, train, and motivate the patrol officers on a daily basis.  Patrol the grounds and report any violations of the Zero Tolerance Policy, safety hazards, maintenance issues or other issues that require attention from the community managers.  Interacts and communicates with local law enforcement officers, Community Managers, Regional Property Managers, maintenance personnel, residents, visitors and guests of the community.  Additional duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  1. Maintain constant communication with the Loss Prevention & Safety Patrol Officers and ensure that they follow the rules, regulations, policies, procedures and assigned duties as written and defined.
  2. Monitors LPS Patrol Officers’ reports and patrol logs to identify trends of criminal activity and life and safety hazards in communities.
  3. Patrols buildings and grounds of apartment communities to identify unsafe conditions.
  4. Assist the Regional Loss Prevention & Safety Manager in investigations of criminal activity and life and safety hazards in the communities.
  5. Identify root causes of problems within the community and assist in developing a course of action with reasoning ability.
  6. Contact local Law Enforcement in case of emergency, criminal activity or access by unauthorized persons in the community. Contact Fire Department in case of fire or medical emergency.
  7. Report any criminal activity, injuries or unsafe hazards in the community using My Safe Workplace. 
  8. Report any malfunctioning equipment, broken windows, doors, gate systems,

alarm security systems, fire alarm systems. 

  1. Enforce Community Rules, Regulations, and Policies. Warns all violators of    infractions, such as loitering, soliciting and trespassing.
  2. Assist Regional Loss Prevention Manager to advise CMs and RPMs of issues affecting the community.

 

 

 

  1. Supervises and conducts regular training with Loss Prevention & Safety Patrol

Officers in crime prevention, patrol techniques, observing and reporting.  

  1. Conducts daily briefings with LPS Patrol Officers at beginning of shift with information of incidences affecting assigned communities.
  2. Maintains constant communications with LPS Patrol Officers throughout shift and at end of duty to ensure safety of all LPS personnel.
  3. Inspects LPS Patrol Officers issued safety equipment, manuals, log books, uniforms, etc.
  4. Completes Daily Supervisor Activity Log. Completes Community Light & Safety Surveys as needed. Identifies Abandon & Inoperable Vehicles in community and completes Vehicle Towing Warning Decals.   
  5. Attends weekly LPS Pulse Meetings and disseminates information as needed.
  6. Ensures that LPS personnel use My Safe Workplace and make proper reporting of criminal activity, or unsafe conditions in community.

 

The Regional Loss Prevention & Safety Manager may assign the Loss Prevention & Safety Supervisor other duties as determined.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

An applicant for this position should have had a successful track record as a law enforcement professional or have military experience, preferably in the military police or intelligence and/or security area.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

An associate degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement is preferred or the combination of experience and a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is acceptable.  Law enforcement or military background, specifically in the military police, security or intelligence field preferred or equivalent job related experience.  A minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience is required for this position.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

 

 

 

 

MATHMATECAL SKILLS

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to understand safety rules and procedures.  Ability to mediate confrontations and make decisions based on a sound logic.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

 

Law enforcement certification/background is preferred.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Strong interpersonal skills are required.  Ability to train and motivate subordinate employees is required.  Knowledge of legal and safety procedures preferred.  Knowledge of first aid is desirable.  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are desirable.
