About Industrial/Organizational Psychology Program at
Texas A&M
The Industrial/Organizational (I/O) program at Texas A&M
trains individuals to be both scientists and practitioners.
The program believes that a strong grounding in basic and applied
research skills as well as the theoretical underpinnings of
I/O psychology is essential for both academic and applied work.
Graduates are qualified for positions in academic settings,
research organizations, government agencies, corporations, and
consulting firms. The entire domain of I/O psychology is represented
in the program, including the topics of personnel selection,
criterion development, training, performance appraisal, individual
differences, motivation, productivity, job attitudes, group
processes, decision-making, conflict, leadership, and organizational
change. Texas A&M currently has five full-time core I/O
faculty members. There are also numerous faculty members in
related areas in the Psychology and Management Departments in
the College of Business Administration.
The goal of the I/O program at Texas A&M is to continue
to develop its reputation as a center of scholarly excellence
in I/0 psychology by conducting high-quality basic and applied
research. Faculty and student involvement in ongoing research
projects is emphasized by the program. The program's intent
is to maintain the flexibility necessary to allow students to
pursue careers in either academic or industrial settings. In
recent years, approximately 50 percent of Texas A&M's I/O
graduates have obtained academic positions and 50 percent have
secured applied jobs.
